Introduction to Jacobo Nieto
Hello my name is Jacobo Nieto. I attend mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Buffalo Speedway and Bellaire. Some of the most important insights I’ve gotten from the class so far are: the difference between being holy and doing holy things; Holiness requires an active participation on our part and acceptance of the graces God is always willing to give us; and that the path to holiness depends on our battle with our own will, and whether or not we succeed in destroying it. Not just destroy it but annihiliate it. It has to be nothing. We must surrender our whole lives to God and hold nothing from Him because whatever we do hold from him will be what keeps us away from loving Him completely. It’s also a recognition of how our lives are gifts from Him, and not really ours. One of the biggest difficulties on the Rome Pilgrimage will be to not treat it like a vacation and a fun time with the bros but to really try to grow in our faith during the week. I hope that I’ll have a better idea of what it means to be a part of the Church as we see where its center has been for the past 2000 years. From this I want to come back with more energy to be an active participant in Jesus’ Church.
Wow. Truly compelling, Jacob. I hope to see this kind of thought-provoking stuff in the future. Keep it up.
